Where it is

How far from each airport.

Great-circle distance from the verified coordinate. There is one road down this island and it does not run straight, so treat these as the floor of the drive, never the drive itself.

The beaches

4 here, from the list of twenty-five.

French Leave Beach

Atlantic (reef-tempered) · Pink sand · Swimming

The mainland's signature pink-sand beach on Banks Road — soft sand, palms, and water that stays fairly calm for an Atlantic beach. Ranked the #1 Eleuthera beach on Tripadvisor, and Tippy's beach bar sits on the same stretch.

Getting there. Paved Banks Road, ~5 minutes from Governor's Harbour; public beach paths along the road.

Twin Coves Beach

Atlantic · Photogenic · Snorkeling

Two crescent beaches split by a narrow palm-topped spit meeting at a point — one of the most photogenic spots on the island, usually near-empty, with clear water for swimming and snorkeling.

Getting there. Paved then sand roads with a short walk at the end.

Alabaster Bay (Receiver's Beach)

Caribbean (Bight) · Families · Calm water

A powdery white-sand bay with warm, very shallow water far out — top-tier family swimming with shade trees, and a favorite for paddleboarding.

Getting there. Paved road ~0.1 mile off Queen's Highway; easy parking.

Double Bay Beach

Atlantic · Solitude · Long walks

Roughly 5 miles of powdery pink-tinged sand, firm underfoot, with rolling surf and near-total solitude — bring water and you'll likely have it to yourself.

Getting there. Paved causeway then about a mile of gravel/sand road; a regular car is usually fine in dry weather.

The week here

What happens on which day.

Days move. A kitchen closes for a funeral, an owner goes to Nassau for a week, a music night stops for the season and starts again in November. Ring before you drive an hour on any of this. And if you live here and something above is wrong, tell us — info@surfstung.com — and it will be corrected the same day, because a stale timetable on a page like this does real damage to somebody's evening and to the business that lost the custom.

Monday
FreightThe mailboat leaves Nassau for the southThe M/V Bahamas Daybreak III runs Nassau to Rock Sound and Governor's Harbour — roughly a five-hour crossing — and turns round on Tuesday. Freight arriving means shelves filling.
Friday
The big oneThe fish fry at Governor's HarbourThe one unmissable fixture of the week. Down on the waterfront by Cupid's Cay, run by the Governor's Harbour Development Association: fried fish, barbecue chicken, peas and rice, rum drinks, a DJ playing Bahamian music, and dancing afterwards. Locals and visitors in the same place, which is rarer than it sounds.
MusicOpen mic at Elvina's againIf you are staying at the north end and cannot get to Governor's Harbour, this is where the night is.

Buying or selling here.

No price guidance appears on this site, because we hold no verified comparable sales for this island and will not pretend otherwise. What we can do is put you in front of a BREA-licensed Bahamian brokerage — the only people who can legally close a deal in this country. They pay the referral. You never do.

What it costs to own here The buying guide
The other settlements

Why this is not a page per village.

Rock Sound, Palmetto Point, Gregory Town, Spanish Wells, Savannah Sound, James Cistern, Hatchet Bay, Current and the rest do not have pages here yet, and the reason is honest: this directory holds four area labels, two of which are regions rather than settlements. A page per village built from that would be the same five modules with the name swapped, which is padding. They get a page the day there is something real to put on one. Meanwhile Harbour Island is next door, and the directory covers the whole island.

The introduction

Tell us what you're doing.

Six questions. It goes straight to the licensed Bahamian brokerages that cover what you're after — the first to pick it up gets in touch with you directly.

Your details are not shown to anybody until a brokerage claims the introduction, and only then to the one that claimed it. We are not your agent and we take no fee from you.
