Harbour Island

Harbour Island (Briland), Bahamas

Three miles long, reachable only by water, and the most expensive ground in the Bahamas. Dunmore Town is a loyalist settlement of clapboard and deep porches; the Atlantic side is the pink beach everybody comes for.

Where it is

How far from each airport.

Great-circle distance from the verified coordinate. There is one road down this island and it does not run straight, so treat these as the floor of the drive, never the drive itself.

The beaches

2 here, from the list of twenty-five.

Pink Sands Beach

Atlantic · Iconic · Swimming

Three-plus miles of blush-pink sand, 50–100 ft wide, with an offshore reef that keeps the water calm, shallow and clear. The pink comes from crushed red foraminifera shells mixed into coral sand β€” strongest at the waterline and in early-morning light.

Getting there. Water taxi from Three Island Dock (North Eleuthera), then ~5 min by golf cart from Dunmore Town. Multiple public access lanes; the beach is public.

Girls Bank & the Lone Tree

Caribbean (harbour side) · Photo icon · Low tide

Shallow low-tide flats on the harbour side, home to the Lone Tree β€” a hurricane-delivered driftwood trunk that became one of the Bahamas' most photographed landmarks. Wading, not swimming.

Getting there. Walk or golf cart from Bay Street, Dunmore Town; go at low tide.

The week here

What happens on which day.

Days move. A kitchen closes for a funeral, an owner goes to Nassau for a week, a music night stops for the season and starts again in November. Ring before you drive an hour on any of this. And if you live here and something above is wrong, tell us β€” info@surfstung.com β€” and it will be corrected the same day, because a stale timetable on a page like this does real damage to somebody's evening and to the business that lost the custom.

Property in Harbour Island

Buying or selling here.

No price guidance appears on this site, because we hold no verified comparable sales for this island and will not pretend otherwise. What we can do is put you in front of a BREA-licensed Bahamian brokerage — the only people who can legally close a deal in this country. They pay the referral. You never do.

The other settlements

Why this is not a page per village.

Rock Sound, Palmetto Point, Gregory Town, Spanish Wells, Savannah Sound, James Cistern, Hatchet Bay, Current and the rest do not have pages here yet, and the reason is honest: this directory holds four area labels, two of which are regions rather than settlements. A page per village built from that would be the same five modules with the name swapped, which is padding. They get a page the day there is something real to put on one. Meanwhile Governor's Harbour is next door, and the directory covers the whole island.

The introduction

Tell us what you're doing.

Six questions. It goes straight to the licensed Bahamian brokerages that cover what you're after — the first to pick it up gets in touch with you directly.

Your details are not shown to anybody until a brokerage claims the introduction, and only then to the one that claimed it. We are not your agent and we take no fee from you.
